Can the effect shown in the photo at this link be done automatically with some specific settings in DSPro+9? It looks like something automatic so I am probably just looking in the wrong place in the software. Any advice?

Using the column tool at a very low density should be able to do this nicely. The stars most likely would be manual stitches.

Marcelle, I am pretty sure that it is a decorative stitch. That one has to come with Embird or a similar program. It can be done automatically once the decorative stitch is in your decorative stitch database, if you are using Design Shop Pro, we don't have it there, I recreated it using a design with the same stitch and it works. Maybe you can do the same, since I don't know how to send it to you.

Thanks for the information. I am going to try creating a decorative stitch like you described. I think you did it perfectly from your picture. I would love to have more decorative stitches but haven't ever tried creating my own. Is there anywhere to purchase decorative stitches to add to Design Shop?

I've always wonder the same, if we can buy somewhere decorative stitches. Maybe this will help you recreate the stitch, if you copy and paste on your design shop the image below,then redraw it with a walk stitch, I have mine setup with normal walk stitch at 50, select the stitch, then from your custom shape menu, add current, then put the name whatever you want to call it and save it as a decorative stitch. I wasn't able to recreate it with the walk line behind the zigzag stitch so I did that manually: first draw the path, duplicate it, change the second one to your custom stitch and then center the first one under the second one, does it make sense? (My grid is set to 0.5)

As Ian posted...use your Column Tools ( Column 1 works well ) to create the shape and length of the column. Adjust the density number upward to 20 or above or whatever suits your fancy.....
Then use your "Stitch Direction Editing Tool" to lean the stitches for the desired effect.
Once you get one completed and if there are others in the design that will be the same size, you can duplicate the column, rotate and move it to the desired position or if need be, mirror image it....lots of options here...
Oh yes...the centerline....just add an automatic " centerwalk " underlay and adjust the stitch length to whatever suits you.....

It won't give you the same effect. It is not just a simple zigzag, if you look at the stitch closely (in the original image)it is thicker in some areas than others. I have a similar design here and that is how I was able to take a closer look at the stitches. That way it won' be automatic and Marcelle would have to make a column every time instead of just making a simple walk. But of course I am not the expert here. I was just trying to help.

That does look like the "sketch" feature in Embird, and it is fairly easy to create. The stitch is a built in outline function and the settings for minimum and maximum stitch length can be adjusted to give different effects. Laura is going to try a stipple design for me using her Embird software to create that effect. I am anxious to see how it turns out.
Meanwhile, I tried creating a decorative stitch and storing it as Jazmin described. It works pretty good but so far I have only been able to use it for a very simple curve. When I try it for say an outline of an octagon or heart anywhere the direction changes my decorative stitch does not look right on the turns. I am still working with it. Perhaps the various adjustments will fix that.
When I add an outline to a shape using the stitch it puts that stitch just inside the object. Using the arrow to flip it changed it to just outside the object. That worked very well. I am still playing around with it.
Laura did the stipple section for me using her software that has the stitch built in. It turned out very nice. That section can be viewed at the first link below called stippleegg4. At first glance I did not notice the alternation of the decorative stitches. If you look closely it is great that the alternating stitches keep the overall design in perfect layout around the many sharp turns. Laura told me that her software did that automatically also. I have already thanked Laura privately but I want to add my sincere thanks here as well. Nice job.
Using Jazmin's directions and her photos I was able to create the decorative stitch pretty easily. It works very well for a simple object but I haven't been able to get the corners or curves to work well. An example of what happens on the corners can be seen at the link below called decorative test.
