A customer says she has Viking Diamond and D4 software. She is not able to read a VIP format design that I sent to her.

Can anyone help me with what the problem might be with VIP format? She uses many other VIP format files from others but mine are the only ones she can't read.

I am using Design Shop Pro Plus with 009 update. All suggestions will be appreciated.

From what I can find online, the D4 software is able to read DST and EXP. Send that type and see if she can handle those. As a digitizer, you are better off saving as a multi-platform standard, rather than a proprietary format. Let her convert them on her end.

Are any other formats multi-platform?

I have the Viking Designer Diamond and the 4D Embroidery software. The Diamond can indeed read the VIP format as well as EXP and DST and many other formats. As we well know, EXP and DST don't save the colors. For a simple design (one or two colors) it doesn't matter but adding a text file with color changes is very helpful.

A question to ask the Diamond user is whether she has updated her machine. The very first machines were limited in the formats they could read, but that was remedied fairly quickly with a series of updates downloadable from Viking.

Barb,

I let the lady know about the updates you mentioned. It turned out that her problem was that a driver relating to her D4 software was disabled by her virus software. The software support for D4 helped her through it and she can now open my VIP format designs. I am so glad to know that my DS save in VIP format was not the problem.

I really like having the correct colors myself when I purchase a design instead of spending so much time changing all those colors.

I do add a text file with small picture, sizes and color changes. I always appreciate receiving those with purchased designs. They are nice to print out in color for reference. I recently organized many of my designs in 4 inch binders. The text files with pictures are in sheet protectors and are easy to flip through. Maybe some day I will get completely organized. (ha)

I was curious and read the online information about the Diamond. It looks like a very nice machine and has a very large sewing field.

Thanks for your advice and information about the updates.
