Somebody in this board said that all the DS "Premium Alphabets" are now included in V9. I checked all the alphabets that I have in V9, compared them with V7 alphabets and found 11 new alphabets only. Five of those alphabets are in the "V7 Premim Alphabets" list. This list has 60 alphabets so I wonder what happened with the other 55 alphabets. Does anybody knows anything about this issue?
These 55 missing alphabets are listed also in the help documentation.

I will call Melco tomottow and ask about this.

They are no longer available according to Melco.

Greenwing, you are right. I called Melco today and I was told Melco don't have the Premium alphabets available anymore.

Does anybody knows where can I purchase some of these premium alphabets?

Please let me know.

We at Digital Stitchz have several of the premium fonts from version 7. They are linked to your usb key. So even if you can get access to any additional Melco fonts they have to be keyed to your contract and USB key for them to work.

We found that out because we have two Design Shop Pro/AOS packages. And can only use the fonts on the original package.

I truly love my Amaya
But,
In the past two years I have found that the best way to deal with melco is to live without them, from their dealings with trimmers through Advanced training & the melco mart situation, which to say the least was handled poorly and last year discontinuing alphabets without any notification to anyone.

My first choice now is to look elsewhere and use Melco as a last result. Believe me it was not the way I wanted to view my machine supplier.

Just the way it has turnned out.

This is why everyone should find them a good tech and stay on good terms with them.
Melco may be like a lot of other business right now, on their way out.
Special thanks goes to the US congress and government for destroying the economy.

All,

As far as the premium alphabets....my understanding is that when Melco Mart folded, Melco gave everyone in V9 what they could "give"....to explain why ALL Premium alphabets were not supplied....well.....Melco had a bunch of alphabets available that they did not "own". They had to pay royalties on these to be able to sell them to the general public, so they culd not just "give" them away.

True, a bit of warning might have been nice but in retrospect, most of these premium fonts were going for around $125 bucks so how many folks were really buying them anyway?

I had purchased some premium alphabets and received some during promotions. I don't remember which alphabets just now but I copied the missing files from my V7 font file to my V9 font file so I would still have access to them.

Well, me for one. Bought a premium font that could only be used in Letera and now that I've upgraded to Design Shop Lite v9 I can no longer use the font that everyone seems to want.

You'd think that if you purchased a font, you could use it on ANY Melco platform ... after all I did pay for it.

Hummm....logically speaking, especially since you "purchased the font", I would have to agree, but as Obama said during his campaign about a question....I believe the answer to that one is above my pay grade.......

Have you spoken directly to Melco concerning this issue?

I bought the Fanci Monogram from Melco a couple of years ago and I use it all the time...I would hate to know later if I had to change that I would no long be able to use this font since I paid $105 on Sale for it and I use it all the time...Hope this doesn't happen...until next time...

Guys,
It's true that YOUR fonts are serialized to your security dongle. This is to prevent people from buying a premium font from Melco and then turning around and underselling it to the masses.

If you purchased a premium font from Melco in the past and did not save the disk (CD or floppy)that it came on, you might have to jump through some hoops with a Melco phone rep (including paying a fee) or simply just be out of luck if you need to start over with a new computer/system.

Rod,
We chose to purchase several fonts from Melco's premium list with this idea. Our minimum charge is $9.99. Hence, if we paid $125 for a font, after 13 names, it was paid for and everytime we used that font after that, it was all profit.

I have the CD of the premium font I purchased but it can only be used with Letera, which I had until recently when we upgraded to DS Lite.

Melco is supposedly sending me a new CD with the font so I can install it. We'll see!
