  • Filled Holes

How do I make a filled shape, create a hole in it, and fill that hole with another color?

In my old version of DS Pro+, the easiest way was as follows:

    1. select the filled shape, then click on the "hole" icon and create the hole.
    2. copy and paste the shape with the hole, then delete the entire outer outline of the new object leaving just the shape of the hole.
    3. insert a color change between the two objects.

There is probably an easier way in the newer versions, but unless someone else chimes in, this should work for you.

          been playing with DS 10
Sorry for the above fill island will not help.

when I wanted to do this I found creating the object with the hole then
          select it
          right click it
          select, operation
          then , change element type.
change it to single lie center
          click add.
then delete the outline you don't need .
          then do the above again
          with the remaining single line
and change it to a complex fill.
it will be a prefect fit.
increase it pull comp to add over lap and your set.

OK, so this is what I ended up doing. First, I have several holes and they need to end up different colors. And that was a problem! I copied the object with the holes and deleted the outside line leaving only the holes. But they are all connected and can't be separated, so when I go fill them with different colors, that can't be done. I then, using the icon Convert Vector Object To/From Embroidery, converted the holes to vectors. I could then Convert them back to embroidery and color them individually and move them back over the original.

Now ---- when I put a Pull Comp on the big original background, I can NOT get the PC to work in the Y direction (north and south). The Pull Comp only works in the X direction. I also tried doing the Pull Comp on the "holes" and that didn't work either. Do you experience the same or is it only me?

if pull comp does not give you a good overlap then select the object and in the properties dialog choose scale and increase the size by 103% .

I don't know why you weren't able to use "split element" to break the holes apart, but since you have something that works....

I don't understand the problem with pull comp either; usually the percentage-based pull comp effects the object along the direction that the stitches lie. So, for example, if the stitch direction line is 45° off horizontal or vertical, that is the direction that the object size should increase.

Chaya, this is what I was told back in December about purchasing DS Version 10:
"The current offer of a 70% discount would be applied to a second complete set of Design Shop Pro Plus. It would be 70% off retail value of $10,995 discounted to $3,298.50. There is no update to V10 at this time. You would be purchasing another Design Shop Pro Plus." Has anyone purchased Version 10 recently? Is there an upgrade available now?

I just purchased the upgrade from version9 it was $500.00
and the return of the v9 dongle.
this price I was told was good till the end of June.
here is the email for the sales rep.

Jerome, do you feel the upgrade was worth it? Are there many new features you find useful? Any bugs that you've found yet?
                      Thanks!<br />MJ, Everything Embroidered

                        Not that many new features
BUT the ones that were there finally work...

                        no more slow refresh
the file handling is actually working.
                        the fonts are nice.
                        still learning what is new.

                        That is some thing.

BUT it only works with windows 7 and up
you will need to update your hardware if your running anything else.
