  • Backing for lab coats

Can anyone tell me the best backing to use for lab coats?

I believe I've used both weblon no-show (two layers) and regular cutaway with equally good results. I did trim the backing very close to the design, as the coat was so thin you could see the backing through it.

If you're doing lots of these and don't want to have to trim backing by hand, I have used a combination of Supersoft tearaway plus another layer of a lightweight regular tearaway (although not specifically on lab coats). The Supersoft lends a bit more support to the design than most light tearaways while the regular tearaway keeps the design crisp.

Due to the commercial laundering they go through
I would not rec. Weblon it tends to pucker in high temps.

I would recommend a 2 to 2.5 oz cutaway as it stands up to
a great deal of abuse and maintains a good base.

I do mostly lab coats and scrubs and for most thin labcoats I use one layer of weblon and then a double layer of tear away. Works great. On the thick labs I will use tear away only.
