  • Three days of frustration -- argh!!

Three days I have been having recurring thread breaks on all needles on the Silver Surfer, while Encino Man has been running the same design like a dream.

    Okay...switch designs.

    Nope.

    Change ALL the needles.

    Nope.

    Different fabric?

    Negative.

    Floss the bobbin case?

    No change.

    Clean inside of bobbin case?

    Nada.

10,000,000 stitch maintenance, about 6,000,000 ahead of schedule?

    Big whoop.

    More thread feed?

    Less thread feed?

    More backing?

    Different backing?

    Add a topping?

Brush with a fabric softener sheet?

    Frustation.

    Swearing.

    So much swearing.

Today while changing a bobbin, I accidentally ran my finger over the pigtail.

What was that? Did I feel...

    Yep.

A sharp edge on the pigtail. So tiny...like a half of a grain of sand.

    Change bobbin case.

Off Silver Surfer goes, and he is making up for lost time!!!!!

The moral of the story -- it's almost always operator error or missing that itty-bitty detail around here!

How’s your thread feed rollers? We recently replaced a whole machine and about 7-10 all had grooves of varying degrees...

Feed rollers are pristine. It was the tiniest, most littlest, itty-bittiest sharp point on the pigtail that I found purely by accident.

That would do it. Bobbin cases should be replaced too - we’ve occasionally had issues there as well.

As I just said to 'sgorham", sometimes the smallest things can be the most confounding. Your list of items checked is a good one.
