  • 2005 Amaya WACF problems

Having some thread break problems when doing hats and noticed metal flecks around the raised plate on both my machines. Any suggestions as to adjusting something without calling for a tech? I replaced one wing with a new one. The edge next to the needle plate is rough. Could the wings be bent a little out of shape? I don't know how close they are supposed to be to the raised portion of the plate but they are very close to the flat part of the plate and have rubbed the protective plastic off.
    Thank you for your ideas!
    Jo

Remember, this is not an official support channel - no one gets paid to answer questions - they all do it on a volunteer basis.

BTW, have you tried removing the wings and sewing with the standard needle plate? Works fine for me.

Are you running a 'Big Red'? We never used the wings at all-everyone said not to bother with them. Did use the raised needle plate but you have to be real careful on centering the needle, but there were times someone forgot to change the plate and it still ran fine. However, since we upgraded to the XT, hats are so much easier to do and come out much better!

            Seriously Jo,
If you are getting "Metal Flakes", you're either spilling Robocop's breakfast cerial or you've got two metal parts that are rubbing together that are not supposed to be.
Find those two metal surfaces and figure out what you need to do so they don't rub together or consider consulting with your local tech.
As for the "support wings", I don't know two many folks who use them as they tend to get in the way of some of the more popular "low profile" caps.
So as others have said, try removing them all together and see if this solves your issue.

              By the way,
Didn't Rod and Sharon run off together to renew their wedding vows at that "hoity toity" nudist colony in southern Florida???

Or am I mixing them up with someone else?

Oh how I wish Ed!!! ha ha ha

Truth is, Rod has had to run off to help his brother in a neighboring state whose wife ran off, he had a breakdown and then a heart attack and stint put in. Rod has been just a bit busy lately running back and forth.

Thanks John and Ed for coming to our rescue--Rod always tries to help when he can, but sometimes he has to take care of home first.

                    Sharon,

I just read your post about Rod's brother. I hope and pray everything turns out ok with your brother-in-law. Family does come first before work and we understand completely. I remember when I first came on I asked a question and you were so kind to be the first to respond to my question. Please tell Rod that we are thinking of him and you and let him know we appreicate all you two do to help us when we are in need of help...

Gee! Now I know why it was so quiet. Everyone off having problems of their own. Hope all of you are better now.
Thank you, Ed. I replaced the wing with a new one and bent it a little so it wouldn't rub. My tech will be by one of these days and make everything good again. Rob Woods is in Farmington, 300 miles away and this is no time to play dodge with the rock slides and avalanches on Red Mountain pass.
I have been doing all kinds of hats and visors since 2005 with the Big Red and the WACF and hardly ever have a problem with stitching logos 2.25 X 5 if necessary. Ialways use the raised plate and wings.
