Blocking out part of an overlapped design

I'm partially overlapping 2 designs. Is there an easy way to block out the overlapped back part so that I'm not stitching over the back design?

Do you have design shop? It's pretty easy to edit if they are .ofm.

If the overlapping parts are fill areas, for example, you can select them and little icons will appear at the top -- one is combine element(s) and one is subtract element(s). Click on subtract element(s) and the overlapping part will be gone.
