How do I "select"

There was a time when I was digitizing or working on a design that I could hit the left mouse button and draw a box around part of a design and that part would be "selected." I can no longer do this. The line draws, but nothing is selected when I finish. I have Design Pro+, v7. Any suggestions for me?

this type of selection should be able to still be done.
However you have to make the selection box capture the entire
object that is being selected.
example
you have a triangle a square & circle all in one design
all are separate objects
you would have to drag a create the selection box around at least
one of them completely for it to select.
Text in this case also works as a single object for each time you
enter it in a design.
