  • loose satin stitches

I have a satin stitch that is .098 wide and I get looping in a certain area of the design

I have tightened it up and 2 of my 3 machines sew it better when the thread feed is tighter but the third still loops it.

    Any suggestions?

The usual question, is it happening on all needles or just one?

Hook timing, especially the needle guard gap is a possibility. On very narrow columns and .098 wide is about 1/10 of an inch, the loop that is generated for the rotary hook point to pick up, becomes quite small. If the needle guard gap on a specific needle misses picking up the loop, a missed stitch and possible looping will be present.

Lift up your table top and look for the "closest" needle ---C-xx--number in the lower right corner of the casting. As an experiment, sew the .098 column using this needle and see if you still get the looping. The closest needle will be where the face of the rotary hook point is the closest one to the backside of the needle and logically has the best chance of picking up a small loop.
